Sri Velichala Kondala Rao is an eminent poet (a bilingual poet writing both in English and Telugu) an astute scholar and a great critic - all rolled in to one. In this collection of his prose-poems "Straight from my heart" he writes his reminiscences, his broodings and personal sketches of different personalities. More over he writes effective and impressive translations of some well-known telugu poets. His poetic matrix is common stuff of human emotions and he gives vent to the varied and variegated emotions lurking under the layers of heart. The poet is non-plussed and goes through interminable anxiety at the loss of faith in humanity, spiritual vacuity and ethical inanity. He loathes vehemently the miscarriage of fairness and justice. It looks as though he shouts from the roof-top to give his clarion call to prick the clouded conscience of the impassive people. But as every dark cloud has a silver lining, behind all this sordidness of modern age, the poet hopefully looks for an iridiscent and bright future. Most of his poems end on a joyous confirmation of optimism.
This is a very good collection of poems worth a prominent place in houses and libraries. One should by it, read it and enjoy it!
