Description

After the completion of the yagna everyone was leaving the place of Viswamithra. While they were leaving the hermitage, all of them blessed Rama and Laxmana. One day Viswamithra was explaining the secrets of ethical and political issues to Rama and Laxmana. An ambassador from the city of Midhila handed over a letter to Viswamithra. It was a letter from the king Janaka. Viswamithra had given the letter to Rama and asked to read it. The letter contained the following:

"Respectable Sage! Our humble greetings to you. This is an invitation to you. We decided to get our daughter Sita married. We will give our daughter in marriage to the person who can lift Siva’s arrow, which we are worshipping for centuries in our house. We request you to be at the auspicious occasion along with your disciples.

Your loyal servant
Janaka. ”
