Description

The present work is an attempt to show an connection between the ‘household’ work and the ‘outside’ work. This connection also implies a ‘Labour relationship’ between a man and a woman.

The term ‘Man-woman relationship’ is immediately suggestive of a ‘physical relationship’ between them generally. Man and woman relationship, however, also implies a Labour relationship between them! While the physical relationships represent the natural angle, the Labour relationships represent the social angle.

The aspects associated with a natural angle are invariably influenced by the character of the social relations. Every person in the society, the women, men, children and the elders, all must occupy a distinct position among the Labour relations.

To understand the man-woman relationship and the problems arising from these two angles between them, one must understand the ‘Labour relationship’ necessarily.

Many aspects that I discussed in the present essay such as the labour, value, use value, money, and the Labour relations - all can be understood in greater detail only by studying Marx’s ‘Capital’.

‘Capital’ is the basis for this essay. However, this essay does not contain as many details as ‘Capital’ has. One has to understand this essay along with its limitations.

Several years ago in 1975, much before this essay, I wrote an article on household work and the problems associated with this kind of work entitled ‘What kind of exploitation is the household drudgery? How will it end ? ’ The 1975 article, however, lacked the clarity on ‘Labour relations’ and was based on common sense. It is because I was not aware of ‘Capital’ at that time. This means that without studying ‘Capital’ and understanding ‘the Labour relations’ and ‘Division of Labour’, we cannot find the correct solution for any problem! This fact became evident to me many times.
