The book in your hands is an outcome of the UGC sponsored Minor Research Project that Dr. R. Dyvadatham successfully completed in the Department of English & Communications, Dravidian University, Kuppam, Dr. Datham is known to me as a dedicated teacher and teacher trainer with specialization in English Language Teaching. The content of the book stands out as a testimony to Dr Datham’s commendable understanding of the present situation of ELTT at Teacher Training Level. The result is that it offers the much needed pragmatic approach that is laced with down to the earth approach to English Language Teacher Education.

The book initially lays down a candidly critical evaluation of the English syllabus being used at the diploma, B.Ed and M.Ed levels of English language teacher education. Followed by that a strong case has been made for the need to introduce an Advanced ELT – Methodology and Teacher Education at Masters i.e. M.Ed level in Andhra Pradesh. The best part of the book, however, is the recommendation for the professional development of teachers in the form of an Integrated English Language Teacher Education at the bachelor and Master (B.Ed. and M.Ed) levels. The author has designed and presented a note worthy model syllabus ‘Advanced ELT-Methodology and Teacher Education’ which has to be used as part of the curriculum at the M.Ed level. I congratulate the author for such a good work that caters to the immediate needs of the prospective teachers and teacher trainers.
