But in the modern times, sufficient attention has not been paid to the art of public speaking whereas we have already seen that this subject was highly prized in the ancient times. It is for this reason that we see most of the speakers now-a-days, who address public meetings, read their speeches from their prepared texts and even this reading they do in a clumsy manner. Therefore, it is very essential that proper attention should be given to the development of the subject of public speaking in our colleges and universities.
It is a matter of great pity that in India where the subjects of rhetoric and dialects were given much importance in the ancient times, now no serious attention is being paid to the art of public speaking. It is right time that this subject should be included in the syllabus of schools and colleges for teaching, as a separate subject. By learning the art of public speaking the students can develop their personality, poise and gain self-confidence.
