Description

Literature is the creation of another world, a world that we can only see through reading literature. Literature is something that reflects society, makes us think about ourselves and our society, allows us to enjoy language and beauty, it can be didactic, and it reflects on “the human condition”. It both reflects ideology and changes ideology, just like it follows generic conventions as well as changing them.

Even at times when our mind is very busy and also in a confused state of tiresomeness, and if we read through a novel, it definitely absorbs into the story and diverts our mind which definitely gives a soothing effect and no medicine is required. That is the greatness in fiction and storytelling.

The work done by Prof. Ishuvi Mahajan by studying the concept of myth making in the most famous novels of Michael Ondatjee is a great experiment which gives an insight into the writings of a world famous novelist. Unique features of this work include selection of novels, in-depth study of myth, comparison of various literary concepts and finally concluding in an appropriate way.

In her conclusions, the author made a fine presentation of her analysis about each of the three novels. While mentioning about Anil’s Ghost… the author made subtle remarks that “The reconstruction of Buddha’s statue is a reconstruction of faith, the painting of Buddha’s eyes is an endowing of the lost vision to the world”.

An excellent composition of the book certainly deserves all appreciation. This book undoubtedly serves to enlarge the horizons of great literary works in the society.
